His story

Ilyas was one of the messengers (37:123). He asked his people whether they would not fear Allah, and why they called on Ba'l and abandoned the best of creators (37:124-125). They denied him, and the Quran says they will be brought to account, except Allah's sincere servants (37:127-128). Allah left peace upon him and praise among later generations (37:129-130), and named among the righteous with Zakariyya, Yahya and 'Isa (6:85).

The longer story of a drought, a king who believed and then turned back, and a horse of fire comes from Wahb ibn Munabbih, from the People of the Book. Ibn Kathir said only Allah knows whether it is true.
