The event

The Muslims set out to meet a Quraysh caravan returning from Syria under Abu Sufyan. He changed his route and called Makkah for help, and the two sides met at Badr: about 319 Muslims with some seventy camels between them, against about a thousand of Quraysh.

The Quran reminds the believers that Allah gave them victory at Badr when they were few and weak (3:123). islamweb's article reports about seventy of Quraysh killed, among them Abu Jahl and Umayya ibn Khalaf, about seventy taken captive, and about fourteen Muslims martyred. islamweb's fatwa gives the date as Friday 17 Ramadan, 2 AH, from al-Mubarakfuri.

And already had Allāh given you victory at [the battle of] Badr while you were weak [i.e., few in number]. Then fear Allāh; perhaps you will be grateful.

123. And Allâh has already made you victorious at Badr, when you were a weak little force. So fear Allâh much[22] that you may be grateful.
