About this place

The Quran reminds the believers that Allah gave them victory at Badr when they were few and weak (3:123).

Shurrab explains that Badr was the name of a well, beside which the battle took place, and that it is now a large town about 150 km from Madinah. Pilgrims used to pass through it on the way to Makkah until the newer road was opened.

And already had Allāh given you victory at [the battle of] Badr while you were weak [i.e., few in number]. Then fear Allāh; perhaps you will be grateful.
