His story

Zakariyya was the guardian of Maryam. He found provision with her in the sanctuary and asked where it came from. She said it was from Allah (3:37). There he called on his Lord for good offspring (3:38). He was old and his wife was barren, and he feared for the religion after him (19:4-6).

The angels gave him the good news of a son named Yahya, a name given to no one before (19:7). When he asked how this could be, he was told that it is easy for Allah. As a sign he would not speak to people for three days except by gesture (3:41). Allah answered him and made his wife fit to bear a child (21:90). The Quran does not say how he died.
