The practice

Ibn 'Umar reports in al-Bukhari that the Prophet ﷺ told his Companions to make the last of their night prayer Witr, an odd number of rak'at.

islamweb's fatwa gives its time as from after 'Isha until dawn, and says that one who sleeps through it or forgets prays it when he wakes or remembers.
