Daily SunnahThe mosque and prayer

Repeating the call to prayer

متابعة المؤذن

When you hear the call to prayer, say what the caller says.

Sahih

The practice

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reports in al-Bukhari that the Prophet ﷺ told those who hear the call to prayer to say what the caller says.

islamweb's fatwa says that most scholars hold this a Sunnah, not an obligation, so there is no sin in leaving it. The listener repeats each phrase, except that at the two calls to come to prayer and to success he says that there is no power and no strength except by Allah, the stronger view according to the hadith.
