Parables of the QuranA parable of the Quran · Aal-i-Imraan 3:117

The freezing wind on the crops

What the disbelievers spend to support falsehood is lost like crops struck by an icy wind.

Quran

What it means

What the disbelievers spend in this world is likened to a wind with bitter cold that strikes the crops of people who wronged themselves and destroys them (3:117).

As-Sa'di explains that their wealth and children will not save them from Allah's punishment, and what they spent to support their falsehood will come to nothing, like a field ruined by an icy or burning wind. They were not wronged: it was their own doing.

QuranAal-i-Imraan (The Family of Imraan)Quran 3:117

The example of what they spend in this worldly life is like that of a wind containing frost which strikes the harvest of a people who have wronged themselves [i.e., sinned] and destroys it. And Allāh has not wronged them, but they wrong themselves.

117. The likeness of what they spend in this world is the likeness of a wind which is extremely cold; it struck the harvest of a people who did wrong against themselves and destroyed it, (i.e. the good deed of a person is only accepted if he is a monotheist and believes in all the Prophets of Allâh, including the Christ عليه السلام and Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم). Allâh wronged them not, but they wronged themselves.
