The hadith

On the authority of Tameem ibn Aus ad-Daree (ra): The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The deen (religion) is naseehah (advice, sincerity).” We said, “To whom?” He (ﷺ) said, “To Allah, His Book, His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk.” [Muslim]

Lessons

Sincere counsel, the hadith teaches, is the whole of the religion; it was the work of the prophets (7:62, 7:79). It is owed to Allah, by sincerity and remembrance; to His Book; to His Messenger, by believing and following him; to the leaders, scholars and rulers, by learning from and helping them; and to all Muslims, by wanting for them what you want for yourself and guiding them gently.

In practice: advise with gentleness and patience, as the Prophet ﷺ did, making things easy rather than hard.
