The hadith

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Part of the perfection of one’s Islam is his leaving that which does not concern him.” A hasan (good) hadeeth which was related by at-Tirmidhi and others in this fashion

Reported by
at-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah

Lessons

Part of being a good Muslim is leaving what does not concern you, and being keen on what benefits you. It means guarding the eyes from envying worldly luxuries (20:131) and the tongue from idle talk and backbiting, except for speech that does good (4:114). What concerns a person is judged by the Shariah, not by whim, so it is no excuse for leaving enjoining good and forbidding wrong.

In practice: guard your time, your gaze and your tongue.
