The siwak before prayer

السواك عند الصلاة

Were it not hard on his people, he ﷺ would have commanded the siwak at every prayer.

Sahih

The practice

The Prophet ﷺ said that, were it not that it would be hard on the believers, he would have commanded them to use the siwak at every prayer. Abu Hurayra reports it in Muslim. islamweb's fatwa explains that it is therefore recommended, not obligatory, at prayer and at ablution.
