Daily SunnahThe mosque and prayer

Two rak'at on entering the mosque

تحية المسجد

One who enters the mosque prays two rak'at before sitting down.

Sahih

The practice

Abu Qatada reports in al-Bukhari that the Prophet ﷺ told whoever enters the mosque not to sit until he has prayed two rak'at.

islamweb's fatwa says the majority of scholars hold these two rak'at recommended, not obligatory, and that a regular Sunnah prayer or the obligatory prayer prayed on entering counts for them.
